The original settlers arrived in this village around 1836 and were hired to build the I & M Canal. The first business to locate here was the Kimball & Cobb Stone Company in 1883. The President of the Company was Jefferson Hodgkins, hence the name of the village. Hodgkins is also home to the new United Parcel Service distribution hub.
