Lemont is the oldest Incorporated village in the I & M Canal Civic Center Authority boundaries. Located in the scenic Des Plaines River Valley, the New England style community is rich in historic landmarks. It was first settled in 1836 in conjunction with the building of the I & M Canal and its attractions that include the I & M Canal bike path, museums, antique shops, restaurants, parks, forest preserves and golf courses.
