Mission
Friends of the Chicago Portage promotes the  historic interpretation, ecological restoration  and appropriate development of the Chicago Portage National Historic Site through volunteer advocacy, public events and other projects that raise public awareness of its history and significance.

Friends of the Chicago Portage and the tour series are sponsored by the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor Civic Center Authority and are funded by an Illinois First grant provided with the generous assistance of State Representative Eileen Lyons and State Senator Christine Radogno.


Goals
•   To promote the historic interpretation and ecological  restoration of, and recreational access to, the Chicago Portage National Historic Site

•   To conduct tours and events that raise awareness of the location, history and significance of the Portage Site

•   To provide information to the general public about projects and events at the Portage Site

•   To conduct workdays and clean-ups that enhance natural areas, restore native species and to help make visitors experience safe and enjoyable
