Willow Springs is located on both sides of the Des Plaines River and the I & M Canal. Its name was derived from a sparkling spring that once flowed at the base of a Willow tree near the center of the village.  Recreational opportunities include the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center, Willowbrook Ballroom, and the I & M Canal Bicycle Trail, as well as the Palos Forest Preserves, fishing lakes, hiking trails, stables and picnic areas.
